IBM AI Product Manager Professional Certificate

IBM launched this 10-course professional certificate on Coursera in November 2025, targeting people who want to move into AI product management roles. The program does not require prior experience in product management or software development and is designed for learners from any professional background.

What it covers

The certificate opens with product management fundamentals: the product lifecycle, persona development, value creation, SWOT analysis, and stakeholder collaboration. These modules follow the ProdBoK® guide and introduce the vocabulary and processes common across PM roles in technology companies.

From there, the program moves into Agile and adaptive methodologies, covering sprint planning, backlog management, and iterative delivery. A separate track introduces core AI concepts — deep learning, machine learning, neural networks — before focusing on generative AI specifically: prompt engineering, foundation models, and large language models. Throughout the courses, learners complete hands-on projects that build a portfolio demonstrating AI product management skills.

IBM awards a professional certificate upon completion, recognized globally and issued via Credly.

Who it is for

The certificate is aimed at career changers from adjacent fields — business analysis, project management, or domain specialist roles in healthcare, finance, or e-commerce — who want to move into product management with a focus on AI products. It also fits PMs early in their careers who have been managing traditional software products and want to formalize their understanding of AI-specific concepts.

Experienced AI PMs will likely find the foundational modules too introductory. The program teaches no programming skills, so those who want hands-on model work or ML engineering depth should look elsewhere.

What it does not cover

The certificate does not address AI system evaluation, fine-tuning, or model selection at a technical level. It also does not cover pricing strategy, go-to-market execution, or enterprise-scale AI deployment in depth.

Duration and cost

The program takes roughly six months at ten hours per week. IBM offers the first month of Coursera access at no cost; a paid subscription is required to complete the remaining courses.
