Figma extends AI image editing tools to FigJam, Slides, and Buzz

What happened

On March 30, 2026, Figma extended four AI image editing tools — Expand, Erase, Isolate, and Vectorize — from Figma Design to FigJam, Slides, and Buzz (beta). The tools had previously been limited to the main design canvas.

Expand generates content to fill image edges outward, extending the boundaries of a composition without requiring a separate editing application. Erase removes unwanted elements from photos or visuals. Isolate separates a subject from its background. Vectorize converts raster images into editable vector paths inside Figma.

Expand, Erase, and Isolate are now available in FigJam, Slides, and Buzz. Vectorize is available in Slides and Buzz. Access requires a Professional, Organization, or Enterprise plan with AI enabled. Dev, Collab, and View seats can use these tools. Buzz availability remains in beta.

Context

The stated rationale from Figma is that teams often need to adjust visuals at multiple points in a project — during brainstorming in FigJam, during a presentation build in Slides, or when producing marketing assets in Buzz — and having to return to the design canvas for image edits breaks that flow. Bringing these tools to the other surfaces means a facilitator adjusting a workshop board, or a marketer refining a campaign image, no longer needs design canvas access to perform basic corrections.

Why it matters for designers

For design teams that use Figma across multiple surfaces, this reduces the number of roundtrips to the design canvas for routine image tasks. The Vectorize extension to Slides and Buzz is particularly useful for teams that work with hand-drawn assets, photography, or raster illustrations that need to become editable vectors — a workflow that previously required a separate application or a round-trip through the design canvas. The broader availability across Figma’s product suite reflects an incremental but practical move toward a more unified editing experience within the platform.
