AI and influence for design researchers — Maven course review

What the course is

A two-session workshop on Maven by Bobby Hughes (Aardvark Design Labs) and Eli Woolery (Design Better). Priced at $350, the workshop focuses on a common researcher frustration: insights that are rigorous but do not travel through the organization. The course teaches AI-assisted techniques for making research findings visible and memorable.

Who it’s for

Design researchers who want their insights to have more organizational impact. Particularly relevant for solo researchers or small research teams who need to expand their skill set beyond traditional report writing. No design background is required.

What it covers

The workshop spans two sessions across two weeks. Session one covers “research snacks,” bite-sized communication formats, and visual communication techniques using tools like ChatGPT, NotebookLM, Gemini, and ImageFX. Session two focuses on storyboards and the future of research influence. Participants work in teams on challenges to create shareable research updates, visual artifacts, and narratives that make stakeholders feel what customers feel.

Limitations

The workshop is focused on communication and influence rather than research methodology or analysis. If your primary challenge is conducting better research rather than communicating it, the scope may not match your needs. Two sessions provide a taste rather than deep mastery.
