Beehiiv: webinars, metered paywalls, and AI analytics added for newsletter creators
On April 23, 2026, newsletter platform Beehiiv announced a significant expansion of its creator tools, adding features that position it as a direct alternative to specialized platforms like Substack, Patreon, and Zoom.
The new tools include: webinars supporting up to 1,000 attendees with video, screen sharing, and chat; metered paywalls that let publishers set a free-article limit before requiring a subscription; paid trials with configurable duration, price, and billing cycles; and AI analytics for podcast audiences, which surfaces listener patterns through natural language queries.
Beehiiv launched as a newsletter platform nearly five years ago and has been adding creator economy features in stages. The company reported 400 million unique readers, 50,000 active users, and $28 million in annual recurring revenue as context for the announcement.
For writers who run newsletters, the webinar addition is the most consequential change. Previously, running a live event required a separate tool and a separate registration system, with manual linking between the newsletter audience and the event. Beehiiv’s webinar integration works from the same subscriber list, reducing the operational overhead for paid events.
The metered paywall model — offering a number of free articles before requiring a subscription — has proven effective for mid-size publications trying to convert casual readers into paying subscribers. It requires less immediate commitment from new readers than a hard paywall while still creating a conversion path.
The AI analytics feature for podcasts is narrower in scope: it lets creators query audience data using natural language rather than building reports from raw metrics. Whether it provides genuinely new insight depends on the quality of the underlying data, which the announcement does not detail.
