Chicago Writers Association — AI writing community

The Chicago Writers Association runs periodic online workshops on using AI in the writing process. Their sessions, led by practitioners like Gina DiPonio, frame AI as a creative support tool rather than a writing replacement, emphasizing that writers do not need AI to write but may find it useful for exploring ideas, asking better questions, and supporting their creative practice.

Workshops are available to both members and non-members at different price points. The association’s approach to AI is intentionally measured: sessions focus on approachable ways to use generative AI without compromising voice, craft, or creative ownership.

For writers who prefer structured learning in a community context over self-directed tool exploration, these workshops provide a guided entry point. The regional association format also means the community is smaller and more personal than large online groups, which some writers prefer for discussing a topic as charged as AI in creative work.
