Figma: Admin controls for per-user AI credit limits

On August 5, 2026, Figma added per-user AI credit controls to its admin panel. Organization and team admins can now set a custom monthly credit limit for individual team members — from full access, to a specific number, to no access at all. When a user hits their assigned limit, they can submit a request to their admin for an increase instead of simply being cut off.

This builds on the broader credit enforcement Figma introduced in March 2026, when per-seat limits began applying to all plans. That earlier change set a monthly ceiling by seat type. The August update adds a layer of granularity: admins can now differentiate between team members based on actual usage patterns rather than seat category alone.

The practical implication for design teams is more controlled AI spending without a blanket restriction. A team lead or design system owner who runs heavy AI generation tasks can receive a higher allocation than someone who uses AI features occasionally. The request-and-approve flow means members are not blocked indefinitely — they can escalate when a project requires more.

For studio leads, heads of design, and anyone responsible for Figma billing, this update reduces the friction of managing AI costs at scale. Teams that previously set no limits and absorbed unpredictable monthly charges now have a mechanism to forecast and cap spend by person.

The feature is available on Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans.
